Attract Your Ideal Client in 5 Simple Steps

If you could work only with your ideal client, who would that be? What are their problems, how would you serve them? And HOW would you get that message across to them?

These are just some of the questions you need to know when attracting ideal client to your business.

When it comes to attracting new clients, how are you faring? Are you attracting the people that you want? Could you do better? This post is about attracting clients – in fact – the IDEAL client to your business. If you want to cut to the chase, play the VIDEO now!

5 steps to attracting your ideal client

1. Know who your ideal client is – your avatar
Your avatar is a description of your perfect client, as an individual (rather than a market segment). On the video I give a great example of Charly Leetham’s avatar who’s name is ‘Sally’. I pinched this example from Charly’s chapter in Ignite Your Business Mojo, because it demonstrates the avatar concept so beautifully. When you have a clear picture of your avatar, it is much easier to create marketing message that will attract them like a bee to a bloom. Each time you are writing an article, drafting a web-page, or creating your other marketing materials, keep your avatar in your minds eye to help make the job easier.

2. Clarify the key issues your audience have and address them specifically
So what is your marketing message, and does it highlight the problems you solve, or is it vague and watered down as you try to be too much to too many. Know your audience, know their problems, and address those specifically. I know it feels counter-intuitive to do this, but remember, ever additonal problem you claim to solve means a whole new set of competitors!

3. Have a unique value proposition and message that’s easy to remember, so others can share it.
Articulate your unique value so that is easy to identify you as the person to see, as well as be remembered and shared by others. This unique value, and the problems you solve, and outcomes you achieve for your clients, become the foundation for all of your marketing messages. If you start to specialise, you will discover you become the go-to person for that particular issue. A powerful position to be in to attract a steady stream of clients and referrals as you become recognised for your particular expertise.
4. Know the best channels to connect with your ideal audience
Once you are crystal clear on your ideal client, you can identify the places they congregate, so that you can share your value through your powerful marketing message, where they hang out. It’s not enough to wait for them to walk in your door; it’s about discovering ways to put yourself in front of your audience. With the onset of social media and other easily leveragable social mediums and networks, this is  becoming far easier.
5. Be consistent – know where you are going – draw a map and take steps toward your destination.
So you’ve clarified your avatar, defined their problem, created a powerful marketing message, and worked out where to find them. The final step is BE CONSISTENT! Everytime you open your mouth, write an article, share an email, send a letter, tell a friend – make sure your message is consistent. Remember, if you are confusing or vague, your audience definately will be!

Sanity Saver Tip #3 Use one piece of work in many ways

If you are ‘working’ for yourself, you have probably noticed you wear a LOT of hats! It’s no wonder that overwhelm has a tendency to kick in on a regular basis.

One of the best ways to reduce that feeling of overwhelm re-use things you have done wherever possible, a great way to leverage your time.

When it comes to marketing your business, it’s possible to take one piece of information and apply it a few different ways, so that you maximise the exposure with minimum effort. It’s kind of like the beehive on the left. You do the work once, and then send it out into the world in different formats to make an impact in the market place, where YOUR customers are waiting for YOU!

Lets start with a page of information. Information that your clients (and potential clients), both need AND want. Something that can demonstrate your value, so they become interested in your products and services, and recognise that YOU are you are the one to help them.

Here’s 7 ideas to get you thinking. Start with 500 words (about 1 typed page) and turn it into:

  1. A blog article
  2. Share that blog article on Twitter
  3. Turn it into a powerpoint to use as a presentation
  4. Break it up into small bite sized chunks and share those hints on your Facebook status
  5. Put it in your newsletter to existing clients
  6. Use it as an info handout at a network with your card attached
  7. Record it as an audio (Blog talk radio is a good place to start)

So what do you think? See how one piece of information will help you to promote your business widely, without unecessary overwhelm? Does this feel doable to you? Perhaps you just choose to use the first 3. My main point is not to keep starting from scratch, but use the information that you already have in your filing cabinet and on your hard drive.

If you’d like some help, I’m here for you, so just drop me a line at krishna@healthymarketing.com.au or skype: healthbizmentor or simply add a comment below, which I will happily reply to.

Happy marketing!

Marketing Magician….

A few months ago, my beautiful client Natalie Hennessey of www.spiritedwomensnetwork.com wrote this poem for me (she’s lovely like that, generous in spirit….). I tell you, it’s moments like that that make this work so worthwhile. I really do love the people I work with! I’ve held off from sharing it until now, but I thought….its time to step into where I am going, and that goes for all of us. So in the spirit of inspiring others to step up and into all that they are meant to be…..I’ve decided to share……

The Marketing Magician

You know  you have a message

It’s in the business name

And what you really want is

Some clients and some fame.

But how to make it visible

To shine above the rest?

You call on Krishna Everson

If you want the best.

Experience and compassion

Intelligence and skill

The Krishna marketing journey

Is really quite a thrill.

A vision suddenly appears

Born from love and care

As if it comes from magic

The signposts are all there.

And now the path ahead is clear

The steps and goals are done

Krishna you are amazing

It really has been fun

How to Turn a Disappointing Community Event Into a Success Story!

I firmly believe that once in a lifetime opportunities come along every single day!!!!  I also believe, that there is always a solution (this is the motto I teach my children), and that opportunity is always present in adversity.

If you have ever experienced the intense build up prior to the launch of a product or event (yours or someone elses) then you have probably had one of those anti-climatic experiences when it doesn’t quite work out how you expected.

We had one of those experiences last week, and I would like to share how we made it something amazing!

The scenario:

A large community event on the outskirts of town expecting 5000 people from all walks of life, both locals and visitors. A diverse range or activities including a family festival, talent quest, cook-off and business expo with keynote speakers. About 1500 attended, far less than the anticipated crowd, much to the dismay of some stall holders (not to mention any names!)

The expectation:

I had no expectations! I already knew from experience that an event as diverse as this would have difficulty pulling the expected crowd, as it was difficult to guage who exactly the event was for to attract the right people. So,

We hedged our bets:

I would never have risked it on my own, so 3 our us shared a stall who complimented one another. My good friends Jeanne Trelore from www.witchwords.com and Natalie McIvor of www.enlightenedgoddesses.com.au and I came up with a fantastic package together to generate leads.

We played our part:

We did what we could to promote the event ourselves in the lead up. We didn’t rely on the event promoters themselves to do this, although they had a lot of press leading up to the day. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough to get the right blend of people there, and just needs a bit more strategic planning next time.

We seized every opportunity:

We had the opportunity to do our keynote speeches, even though it was to a small (yet enthusiastic) crowd. We videoed the speeches. So far I have turned my 38 minute presentation into 5 videos, with 4 more to come out of that one piece of effort! You can take a peek at my You Tube channel: www.youtube.com/marketingsolopreneur

Here’s one the videos I created:

Natalie McIvor from Enlightened Goddesses, was interviewed live on the site by Noosa Community Radio which was broadcast and recorded. You can listen here: Natalie’s interview

The outcomes:

  • 30 new leads
  • 3 recorded key note speeches
  • 5 You Tube videos (so far)
  • 4 Testimionials
  • A $650 special event package sold
  • A radio interview we can share!
  • Photo in the social pages
  • A stronger Facebook presence
  • More joint venture opportunities with our Goddess alliance
  • Some great new friends!!

I’d call that a pretty good outcome for the $100 I invested!

So the moral to this story is that IT’S ALL UP TO YOU! Success is what YOU make it!

Where are the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. opportunities laying in your business?

How Joint Ventures Can Really ‘Spice Up’ Your Business!

Last night my husband come home very excited with his purchase of 2 tubes of Garden Gourmet spices and guess what, a bonus cookbook! *Groan* was my initial response, I already had a cupboard full of spices that were rarely used (I’m a simple fuss free cook), and quite frankly I didn’t need another bloomin’ cookbook! That was until I realised it was a 4 Ingredients cookbook, you know the one by Sunshine Coast girls Kim McCosker and Rachael Birmingham. Now the 4 ingredients concept? THAT I like!

But it gets better. Not only was the cookbook full of recipes with just 4 ingredients (my type of cooking), each recipe included one or two Gourmet Garden herbs or spices! Easy food that tastes great! I eagerly browsed through the book of recipes, and mentally listed all of the herbs and spices to get on my next trip to the supermarket.

Here’s my point. This partnership is a match made in heaven. It works for the 4 Ingredients brand because it’s another excuse to create another product from a simple and easy to duplicate idea, AND it’s perfect for Garden Gourmet because it builds the desire to purchase more of their product, without the need for manipulation or co-ercion. This is just plain smart! And the customer wins! We get easy recipes that taste great – including more ways to use those spices that have been piling up in the cupboard!

So, what makes a great joint venture?

Both partners win. This is very important. There needs to be a true benefit to all parties involved. It can’t just be a client building activity for you. If you decide to approach someone to partner with you, go with a ‘what’s in it for them’ message.

The customer wins. Genuinely. A dodgy discount won’t get you far in the joint venture stakes. Sure, it’s nice to get coupons, and they may get used, but the more value you add the better.

Leverage and exclusivity. Not only were Gourmet Garden and 4 Ingredients big winners. So was Coles. Huge leverage! And Coles gets to enjoy the exclusivity of the offer, which means they promote it. Who can you think of that could benefit their customers if you teamed up with someone and offered it exclusively? Just sayin’….

Synergy. That means the partnership is far greater than the sum of it’s parts. That is why the 4 Ingredients and Gournet Garden partnership works so well. The synergy of teaming up in a way that takes simple and tasty cooking that is easy for busy mums to make, and good enough to serve at a dinner party, is pretty damn good!

Here’s a sample:

SERVES 4

2 tabs sesame oil

2 tbs Gorment Garden Thai Fresh Blend

500g peeled prawns

50g rice vermicelli, boiled

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add Thai Blend and prawns and cook until prawns turn orange, toos through vermicelli to coat. Optional: Add some Bok Choy at the end for  a little green.

10 Tips for Sizzling Online with Sue Murphy and Toni-Louise Forsyth

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing the marvellous Sue Murphy and Toni-Louise Forsyth of Sizzling Success Online. Sue and Toni generously shared their top ten tips to positively sizzle online, regardless of whether you operate your business online or off.  Enjoy!

1. Discover your passion – What do you love doing, what are you good at, what do you enjoy, do you have a hobby? Do you love writing? Do you love creating things/products? Chances are if it’s something you love you will stick with it and make it a success.

2. Research – Know your market – Giving your market what they want is a super powerful marketing tool. Send out a survey to your database. Find out what they want. Don’t just give then what you “think” they want. Your customers are your business. Know who you are trying to connect with and then develop a business plan. You will have a much greater chance of success online if you have done your research and are selling to a targeted niche, that is, a targeted smaller market of people who are interested in your chosen niche. Then all of these things together, become your Business Plan.

3. Don’t let start up capital stop you – there are ways you can get started online with little of no outlay.

4. Stay optimistic and positive – Believe in yourself and your ability to be successful. Dream it, believe it, and achieve it. Don’t give up. Work on unblocking any subconscious beliefs holding you back from being successful. Because if you believe you “can’t” make money online or be successful online, then you can’t… but if you think you “can” make money online, then you can!! Adopt a Millionaire Mindset -understand how crucial your attitude, mentality and beliefs are surrounding your own success. You have to believe it’s possible. Paul Blackburn states “Many of our greatest business breakthroughs occur in the space between our ears. How we feel about ourselves and the world around us can spark or sabotage our success”… I loved that. What is says is that our single most powerful business tool is our mind. So stay positive, stay optimistic and believe in your own abilities.

5. Get a domain name and build your website. Doesn’t have to be a big expensive one, you can always use a blog as your website – so long as you use fresh clean original content. And don’t just let it sit there. Constantly update it and keep it interesting yet simple.

6. Generate traffic to your site. Direct as many people to your site as you can. Learn
everything you can about SEO and promote your site wherever you get the opportunity.
Eg. On all correspondence, email signature, business cards, flyers, on any Social Media. So you’ve done your research, created a product – and now you need to bring people to your site. And now need to generate traffic or visitors. Some people opt to buy traffic or you can get it for free.

Free traffic – generally takes more work, but is achievable, especially today with viral
marketing and Social Media (which we love). You will also need to know about Search
Engine Optimisation – in short that’s a way of making your website attractive to search
engines so they list your website towards the top of the search engine results. This way
you will get free traffic. However, you can also generate free traffic via article writing ,
blogging and using free publicity. The other way of directing traffic to your website is Social Media!! And that’s the one we love. So these days you have facebook, twitter, LinkedIn and so many more, those three being the main three and you have ample opportunity using those to bring a huge amount
of traffic to your website.

Buying traffic – fast results with a small amount of work required. Sue and I haven’t
bought any traffic but you can do this via pay per click advertisements through eg. Google, Yahoo. What that is is an advertisement you pay for, so it gives you an ad usually down the right hand side of search results on eg. Google page. Consider a facebook ad.

7. Network online and offline. Social media has made it so easy to network online but also important is connecting with people offline. Join a networking group in your community – eg a business breakfast, partake in a Mastermind group.

8. Don’t be afraid to ASK for help. Do this on a regular basis. Ask those who have been through the process. This is where a Mastermind Group becomes imperative to your success as you can share and discuss with your intimate group of like minded business people.

9. Sell products!! If not your own, sell affiliate products. Also helps you get greater
widespread connections. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket – Create a passive income
from a few different sources.

10. Connect with your database via a newsletter, broadcasts, Article Marketing, blogging and Social Media!! You want to make sure you are in regular contact with your database. Not to the point of overkill, but enough to keep them up to date by giving them rich content. “Rich Content” is the key. You don’t ever want to just come across with pushy offers because that’s not lead nurturing and not making a good connection with your database. What you want to do is build up trust and build up a good rapport with them. You don’t want every email from you to them to be a call to action or you will wear your list out. You can do this by way of a regular newsletter which is a great way to give your database information of value (not just offers), sending out broadcasts of important announcements, letting them know you have written a new article or via blogging (which can also be an alternative place to put your newsletter content as well).

Business Lessons From Lego – What are YOU Building?

Have you played with LEGO lately? LEGO has been a big feature in our household since Christmas, as my 10 year old son Luke and 5 year old Lily are passionate LEGO enthusiasts! I don’t mind a dabble myself – some creative play away from the computer!

As well as lots of LEGO, we gave Luke an amazing book which details the entire LEGO story. It’s 3 generation history, a pictorial of every series created and thousands of minature figures – amazing stuff!

From it’s most humble beginning in 1932 creating wooden toys; the company was committed to creating toys that “worked and worked well, even in the hands of the most enthusiastically active child”. Cultural mottos within the company of “this is the way we do things” and only the best is good enough” and the creation of the name LEGO (which means ‘Play Well’) formed the early foundation for the companies future which at times has been challenging. The lego brick was created in 1955 and 10 characterisics of LEGO product development were identified:

WATCHWORDS FOR THE LEGO SYSTEM
Unlimited play possibilities
For girls, for boys
Enthusiasm for all ages
Play all year round
Healthy and quiet play
Endless hours of lay
Imagination, creativity, development
Each new product multiplies the play value of the rest
Always topical
Safety and quality

What do YOU stand for and what impression does it make?

If you watch the news or read the paper, you may have noticed two very different Aussie men in the Australian media this week. Both are legends in their own right, but for very different reasons, and this week exposed their true colours!

Who? Non other than Shane Warne and Hugh Jackman. Both larrikins, both revered and adored by the Australian public, but you couldn’t get two more different reputations! Shane Waugh, cricketing legend, serial tweeter, renowned scoundrel and ladies man is yet again caught in a compromising position, this time with UK celebrity Liz Hurley.

Hugh Jackman, all round good guy, supportive husband, and man of many talents, injures his eye playing stuntman during his grand entrance to the Oprah show, smashing into a light and cutting his eye. When the suggestion of ‘suing’ was made he shrugs it off with a comment about this being Australia, and it was his fault, so there’s no need for that.

So although Shane and Hugh are both Aussie larrikins, it’s more of a case of one ball spinning philandering  jerk and one clumsy multi talented spunky bloke!

So, what’s my point, and what does this mean for you? Quite simply is that what you do, what you say, and how you present yourself and your business, that tells the world what you stand for, whether you can be trusted and if you are likeable.

People love to do business with people they know, like and trust. So, whether you like it or not, you are marketing yourself. So, you may as well make sure the message is the one you want to send; and it’s being received by those most likely to need, trust and like you.

That’s why it is essential that you create a message that is meaningful, share it using ways you feel good about doing, that connects with your ideal client, so that they take action. Not through hard sell and manipulation, but because of what you stand for and the value you offer. That means more customers for you, marketing you can live with that doesn’t compromise your values, and a much more profitable business.

If you want to get started – check out my Christmas FAB 5 here, otherwise I’d love to hear you comments about Shane and Hugh’s shenanigans and what you think about the impressions people make!

To marketing with passion…

Krishna xx
