Sanity Saver Tip #3 Use one piece of work in many ways

If you are ‘working’ for yourself, you have probably noticed you wear a LOT of hats! It’s no wonder that overwhelm has a tendency to kick in on a regular basis.

One of the best ways to reduce that feeling of overwhelm re-use things you have done wherever possible, a great way to leverage your time.

When it comes to marketing your business, it’s possible to take one piece of information and apply it a few different ways, so that you maximise the exposure with minimum effort. It’s kind of like the beehive on the left. You do the work once, and then send it out into the world in different formats to make an impact in the market place, where YOUR customers are waiting for YOU!

Lets start with a page of information. Information that your clients (and potential clients), both need AND want. Something that can demonstrate your value, so they become interested in your products and services, and recognise that YOU are you are the one to help them.

Here’s 7 ideas to get you thinking. Start with 500 words (about 1 typed page) and turn it into:

  1. A blog article
  2. Share that blog article on Twitter
  3. Turn it into a powerpoint to use as a presentation
  4. Break it up into small bite sized chunks and share those hints on your Facebook status
  5. Put it in your newsletter to existing clients
  6. Use it as an info handout at a network with your card attached
  7. Record it as an audio (Blog talk radio is a good place to start)

So what do you think? See how one piece of information will help you to promote your business widely, without unecessary overwhelm? Does this feel doable to you? Perhaps you just choose to use the first 3. My main point is not to keep starting from scratch, but use the information that you already have in your filing cabinet and on your hard drive.

Have you ever wanted to start your own charity?

This coming weeks guest is truly one with a difference. Unique. Passionate. Like a roaring lion in a neat little package!! And she is piloting her own plane. BIG TIME!

Introducing Nicky Mih.

Nicky Mih is a woman on a mission. And that mission is to stop children being sold into sexual slavery. After a trip to Cambodia working with more than 200 girls aged 6 to 24 who had survived the horrors of sex slavery, and after sitting in consultation with these girls about what they most wanted, Nicky founded the charity Free To Shine. Free To Shine is set up to empower both survivors of sex slavery and those young girls at risk of being sold into brothels. Free To Shine empowers these exceptional young women by providing university scholarships to survivors, particularly to become teachers, doctors & lawyers & hence changing the future of their communities and country, and Free To Shine assists girls at risk of being sold into sex slavery by providing them with a 10 year scholarship.

In her day job Nicky is a Success Coach and Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming who partners with CEOs, founders, co-founders and volunteers of charities, NGOs and not for profit organisations to provide training and development, business strategies and personal growth so that together we grow these charities and their results, and make an EVEN bigger difference in the world.

“Imagine a world where opportunities abound, where joy is prevalent and love is thriving. Gandhi said be the change you want to see in the world. If we were all living our BEST lives we wouldn’t have wars, or children dying of hunger and we wouldn’t have 3,000 young girls a day being sold or kidnapped into the horrors and torture of sex slavery. If we all lived our very best lives we would create the world quite differently.” (Nicky Mih, Inspired Living)

And this is why Nicky has chosen to focus her coaching skills and business strategy knowledge and partners with those who are committed to being the difference they wish to see in the world.

How to Turn a Disappointing Community Event Into a Success Story!

I firmly believe that once in a lifetime opportunities come along every single day!!!!  I also believe, that there is always a solution (this is the motto I teach my children), and that opportunity is always present in adversity.

If you have ever experienced the intense build up prior to the launch of a product or event (yours or someone elses) then you have probably had one of those anti-climatic experiences when it doesn’t quite work out how you expected.

We had one of those experiences last week, and I would like to share how we made it something amazing!

The scenario:

A large community event on the outskirts of town expecting 5000 people from all walks of life, both locals and visitors. A diverse range or activities including a family festival, talent quest, cook-off and business expo with keynote speakers. About 1500 attended, far less than the anticipated crowd, much to the dismay of some stall holders (not to mention any names!)

The expectation:

I had no expectations! I already knew from experience that an event as diverse as this would have difficulty pulling the expected crowd, as it was difficult to guage who exactly the event was for to attract the right people. So,

We hedged our bets:

I would never have risked it on my own, so 3 our us shared a stall who complimented one another. My good friends Jeanne Trelore from www.witchwords.com and Natalie McIvor of www.enlightenedgoddesses.com.au and I came up with a fantastic package together to generate leads.

We played our part:

We did what we could to promote the event ourselves in the lead up. We didn’t rely on the event promoters themselves to do this, although they had a lot of press leading up to the day. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough to get the right blend of people there, and just needs a bit more strategic planning next time.

We seized every opportunity:

We had the opportunity to do our keynote speeches, even though it was to a small (yet enthusiastic) crowd. We videoed the speeches. So far I have turned my 38 minute presentation into 5 videos, with 4 more to come out of that one piece of effort! You can take a peek at my You Tube channel: www.youtube.com/marketingsolopreneur

Here’s one the videos I created:

Natalie McIvor from Enlightened Goddesses, was interviewed live on the site by Noosa Community Radio which was broadcast and recorded. You can listen here: Natalie’s interview

The outcomes:

  • 30 new leads
  • 3 recorded key note speeches
  • 5 You Tube videos (so far)
  • 4 Testimionials
  • A $650 special event package sold
  • A radio interview we can share!
  • Photo in the social pages
  • A stronger Facebook presence
  • More joint venture opportunities with our Goddess alliance
  • Some great new friends!!

I’d call that a pretty good outcome for the $100 I invested!

So the moral to this story is that IT’S ALL UP TO YOU! Success is what YOU make it!

Where are the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. opportunities laying in your business?

Woman Power

One night President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of routine and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that wasn't too luxurious.  When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the president's secret service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private. They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner.
I just received this in my inbox, and loved it so much, I had to blog it!

Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle, why was he so interested in talking to you. She mentioned that in her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her.  President Obama then said, "So if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant", to which Michelle responded, "No, if I had married him, he would now be the President".

Fear – It’s in the eye of the beholder…..

I’ve been having a strange relationship with fear lately, and I’ve noticed so have many others. At a time when there are worldwide economic disasters and environmental and natural threats, there is also great hope and faith and belief in all that is loving and beautiful in our world. What a contrast!

When I ask small business owners what their greatest business challenges are, the most common response I receive is lack of confidence, or fear.

It has occured to me that fear is really in the eye of the beholder.

To demonstrate this, take a look at this video of my friend Alex. Now Alex is a book editor, who was quaking in her boots at the thought of uploading a video to Facebook, but seemed to have no trouble tackling a 2 metre long python that had been stealing her chooks. You have to see it to believe it! Check this out…

So what do you think? Does the fear of uploading a video compare to tackling a huge python in the process of eating a chook?
(By the way, Alex is also a killer book editor, you can check out her site at http://www.authorsupportservices.com/)

Are your thoughts and perceptions manifesting as fear and getting in your way? Are YOU getting in your own way?

We apply all kinds of tactics when fear, or a lack of confidence rears it’s head. Sometimes we avoid by beginning unlimited projects that never seem to be completed. At other times we run as far as possible in the opposite direction, often just when success is about to be realised. We worry, over analyse, expect perfection and act helpless…..all in the name of fear!

Come on my friends. I know you have it in you. Do you know why, because you are surrounded by others who want support, encourage and uplift you. We believe in you!!

So what do other successful entrepeneurs think about fear? Are they fearless?

I posted this question on Facebook and here are some of the responses I received…..

“Entrepreneurs have fears, they simply have the confidence to act anyway!” Kathryn Hodges, www.rimmerlawyers.com.au

“No one is fearless…its just what you give power to..your fears or your vision.”  Bridget Thompson www.newleafnutrition.com.au

“I love fearlessness (feel the fear and do it anyway) however I heard that entrepreneurs were unreasonable – “The reasonable man adapts himself to the conditions that surround him… The unreasonable man adapts surrounding conditions to himself… All progress depends on the unreasonable man.” Annie Infinite www.saucysocialmedia.com

“Confidence comes not from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong.” – Peter T. Mcintyre. Shared by Lucinda Coalter www.1015fm.com.au

“I think they are risk takers but I would not call myself fearless.” Pam Brossman, www.socialmediawoman.com

”It’s about being okay about making mistakes, and doing it anyway.” Krishna Everson. www.healthymarketing.com.au

”Moving fast, but smart…..overthinking is death.” Sandra Kumskov http://bodyblisscentral.com

“I think that fearlessness needs to be married to a compassionate heart in business and an ethical attitude. Then I support it. However global greed and fearlessness to screw others and take as much as you can are certainly well used techniques. So lets hope that the fearlessness we embrace is one of transcending boundaries, becoming the best business we can with a compassionate heart and a love for what we are doing ethically!” Dominique Finney www.medicineroom.net

“I agree that entrepreneurs have to have courage to make ideas happen.” Leanne Cleghorn www.womeninnewcareers.com

”Gutsy maybe, but fearless…mmm… I think we all have fears but perhaps we deal with them more quickly than others.” Hayley Solich www.thecreaticians.com

“Entrepreneurs are by nature risk takers as what they are doing is ‘new’ and therefore ‘risky’. I believe the entrepreneur spirit carries you through the ups and the downs that we inevitably face. Entrepreneurs are often inspired and driven by a vision that overrides the instinctive need to remain safe and comfortable. Fearless no; inspired definitely.” Karen Clarke, www.powerfulpositvepeople.com

“We tackle the fear head on, not allowing it to cripple us. We face it and take action. If we werent driven by some form of fear and completely comfortable, we would sit back and do nothing, living in mediocrity.” Sue Murphy, www.redhoteventsandseminars.com

“Are you kidding! Entrepeneurs have a vision and a voice that won’t let them give up, despite their fears!A successful entrepeneur knows and expects challenges yet creates a network of support and strategies and resources that allows them to have the courage to pursue their dreams, to continue despite the challenges and to prepare for the next quest as each one is completed!” Natalie McIvor, www.enlightenedgoddesses.com

”Fearless no but brave… definitely. I love that we’re all striving for a win win situation and that we can achieve it too.” Annabel Candy, www.getinthehotspot.com

[Entrepreneurs] are fearless risk takers… Karen Venturi , Harmony and Homewares

So there you have it! F.E.A.R, so often it’s Fales Expectations Appearing Real, but not always. Whether our fear is looking silly, being rejected, making mistakes, or failing, as you can see, many outstanding entrepreneurs experience it, the difference is that they don’t let it paralyse them! Their purpose and calling and desire to continue to see their dreams realised, and make an impact with the gifts and talents is far stronger!

So go on……feel the fear and do it anyway! You’ll be glad you did! It’s in the bag…..

Blessings for your week….

Krishna xx
